An A-List Art Deco LA Home
It’s no wonder that this sophisticated art deco home with strategically placed pops of color belongs to a fellow creative—jewelry designer Emily Wheeler, who creates dazzling bespoke pieces. The space, which San Francisco designer Regina Perez Montemayor of Studio Montemayor brought to life, is located in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles. When Wheeler purchased the 3,700 square foot house, she craved character—Regina says that she was tasked with adding color and life as much as possible. And she did so in a way that appears strategic and stylish, not overwhelming, as you’ll be able to see below.

The Art Deco Inspired Gathering Spaces
Emily’s main gathering spaces feature plenty of beautiful Art Deco inspired touches, particularly when it comes to seating. The Atelier De Troupe lounge chair is such a statement maker, and the rounded swivel chairs by Emily’s Orange Furniture backgammon table look nice and plush. A wooden console table provides essential storage but also allows for a fun styling moment involving an amazing Danny Kaplan table lamp that Regina sourced through Lawson Fenning.
Like any skilled designer, Regina knew that she wanted to infuse her client’s personality all throughout the home, which meant taking what she described as a “modern box” and updating it to reflect Emily’s aesthetic. She covered the large fireplace with show stopping black tile and switched out all of the light fixtures—the latter solution is a feasible renter-friendly upgrade, too!
Regina chose not to alter the home’s existing concrete floors but instead gave them a bit of a facelift by laying warm, luxe looking vintage rugs on top. Regina says that this helps to ensure the home feels eclectic and playful rather than stark. She wanted Emily’s home to appear inviting, layered, and curated, and I would say that her final design scheme hit the nail on the head!
The Garden Like Kitchen
I’m pretty sure that even the most reluctant cook would be ultra eager to spend time in this beautiful kitchen. Regina and Emily envisioned a living wall as a backdrop and brought that idea to life by planting creeping fig ivy in an in-ground planter.
Regina installed a No.566 silk shade pendant by Ruemmler above the dining table, which is flanked with chairs from Design Within Reach. This setup allows Emily to easily host friends in style—entertaining at home is so much more intimate than meeting at a restaurant, after all.
A Jewelry Designer’s Primary Suite
Emily’s primary bed and bathroom are an ideal mix of restful and eye-catching; each space features a mix of organic elements and textures. While Regina designed the home to mainly feature neutrals, she worked to incorporate bold pops of jewel toned colors throughout. This home is such a gorgeous respite from busy LA life and manages to be equal parts earthy, glam, and welcoming. Shop some of my favorite lookalike pieces below.
