The Lake House Lighting Selections
I’ve always known that lighting makes a space, but after designing our lake house, I’ve never been more convinced. Throughout months of renovations, endless paint projects, and room-by-room installs, the entire home just felt unfinished until all our lighting was in place. We opted for floor lamps and table lamps as the primary light source in the lake house, and I wanted those selections to be as beautiful as they were functional. I leaned into woven rattan textures, modern curved silhouettes, and a mix of brass and bronze finishes for a more custom look. We worked with Hudson Valley Lighting to source pieces for nearly every room, and sure enough, great lighting was the final layer our lake house needed.

FLOOR LAMPS
Designing a waterfront property gave me permission to play with lots of coastal-inspired textures like the lampakanai rope of our Weaver floor lamp. This piece is impressively large at over five feet fall and really manages to anchor our entire living room. The hand-woven rope adds so much visual interest, and it works beautifully against our green sectional sofa.
I wanted to juxtapose the Weaver floor lamp with something more modern, so we selected the Vesper to sit opposite, just behind the sectional. This floor lamp delivers a mix of clean lines and soft curves with a set of linen white shades for double the light factor. We always have this lamp on in the evenings, and it gives off the prettiest ambient glow.

FLOOR LAMPS
We built the sweetest window seating nook in our lake house guest bedroom, and needed a floor lamp for those late night reading sessions. After discovering Hudson Valley Lighting’s collection with designer Mark D. Sikes, I knew the Curves No.1 lamp was just what the space needed. The shape is so elegant, the rattan adds some fun texture, and the aged brass finish keeps it all feeling simultaneously on-trend and timeless.
Once I settled on the Curves No.1 floor lamp, I wanted to source another light that complemented yet slightly contrasted the curves lamp to round out the guest room design. The Flare has quite a few similarities with the aged brass finish and woven base but delivers more clean lines and an overall height that worked perfectly tucked right next to the nightstand.

TABLE LAMPS + SCONCES
I had the most fun designing our bunk room. It’s got a super tiny footprint, but we put every square foot to good use, including an office nook we added in the corner. The workspace needed some lighting, and I went with the Tiptoe table lamp from Hudson Valley Lighting’s collection with interior designer Kelly Behun. It has such a sculptural look with an organic matte finish, and it’s become one of my favorite small but statement pieces in the lake house.
I decided to go a tad less conventional for our kitchen lighting with picture light sconces to flank either side of the window. We have very similar lights in our Austin kitchen and love this look so much. Design-wise, they were a great way to bring a touch of matte black up toward the ceiling and tie our high-contrast color palette together.
