Vintage-Inspired Lake House Guest Room Reveal
My design philosophy with guest rooms is about creating that home away from home. A space that feels collected and layered but also warm and inviting to welcome whoever we may be hosting. Similar to the guest bed in our Austin home, the lake house guest room involved some DIY work behind-the-scenes, but the final result was everything I’d envisioned. From the bay window seating nook to all the vintage furniture and accessories, this room is a nod to the ‘elevated camp’ vibes that inspired our plans from the very beginning.

Guest Bedroom Reveal
The lake house guest room is the only en-suite bedroom in the house. While we definitely considered using this as our primary bedroom, the view looks out to the “back” (back = street side, in lake house terms), so it made sense to utilize this bonus space for guests. Luckily, it’s got a pretty huge footprint with multiple seating areas and tons of storage, which is perfect for out-of-town visitors looking to settle in.
The catch—because there’s always a catch—is that during the renovation process, this was the room where we discovered our serious foundation issues. We had already gone to the work of installing the new LVP in this room but had to pull it up a month later when our contractors needed access to the subfloors. It was a little devastating to throw away our hard work, but we knew it was the best decision in the long run.
My favorite feature in the lake house guest room is the bay window. When we initially toured the space, I KNEW it was begging for a cute seating nook, so with a little DIY willpower, we made it happen. Once we built out the storage area underneath, we topped it with a cushion using an old memory foam mattress. I decided to cover it in a pretty forest green fabric, and I love how it ties back to our living room color palette. From there, I styled the look with pillows from Shoppe Amber Interiors and my go-to woven shades. I love to imagine this nook as a cozy bedtime reading spot for any young families we get the opportunity to host.

Vintage Accessories
Sometimes guest rooms can feel like an afterthought of the house, but this one was really designed with intention. I took it as a fun opportunity to source vintage pieces that added a lot of character and gave our guests a one-of-a-kind experience. The dresser, woven trunk, and art were all vintage finds, and those wooden paddles? I sourced those for $2 each! Overall, I wanted this space to feel the most collected, so I sourced an 1800s quilt that pulled the whole room together.
Once I settled on a metal bed frame for our guest bedroom, I knew I wanted to add some juxtaposition with the bedding. I chose this white quilt with the sweetest scalloped edge and love how it pairs with the vintage-inspired frame. The cotton has held up super well (despite puppy paws), and I wash ours on a weekly basis. One tip: I’d recommend ordering a size up to get the look of the scalloped edging hanging over your bed.
We went with a Studio Revival original called The Rune in our guest bedroom. It’s a 100% wool flatweave rug with bold stripes and some geometric pattern play. I love how it brings a modern juxtaposition to our elevated camp aesthetic and that it’s available for four different size options. Our guest bedroom is surprisingly large (18 feet long, to be exact), so it was nice to have a rug option that could appropriately fit the space.
