An Entertaining Cali Cool Home

Los Angeles designer Jessica Nicastro of Jessica Nicastro Design has mastered the art of earthy, California style and fills her spaces with beautiful organic elements and spent a year and half working on her client’s Westlake Village home, which is filled with natural light and epitomizes the laid back West Coast aesthetic. Jessica couldn’t have asked for a better outcome when the project ultimately wrapped: As soon as her client stepped foot into the styled space, she immediately felt at home, the designer shares.

For Jessica’s client, Westlake Village held many memories; it was where she grew up, too. She’d always wanted to move back to the neighborhood due to the friendly community and its proximity to the beach and bike trails. Most importantly, she craved a space where she could comfortably work from home alongside her dog, Tank, and wanted to break away from the standard track home look predominant in her neighborhood, and Jessica certainly helped to bring her vision to life!

The Elevated Cali Cool Living Room

In moving away from the track home aesthetic, Jessica’s client initially wanted to go ultra modern. As the project kicked off, though, she realized that what she actually craved was a space that was warm, welcoming, and reflective of her personality. She gave Jessica an enthusiastic “yes” when it came to infusing colorful pieces into the living room (such as the burgundy Mario Bellini sofa) and was also happy to bring in some wood tones and mixed metals. What her client didn’t want, Jessica says, was to be pigeonholed into one particular design style—instead, she craved a mix of timeless, calming, and eclectic touches and also desired an entertaining ready space; she’s an avid host who loves to invite people over to her home.

Jessica’s client is also passionate about artwork; like me, she is drawn to eye-catching abstracts in particular. She fell head over heels for artist Anna Ullman’s work and landed on Anna’s Cypress Green Sandtexture Painting for her living room. To Jessica’s delight, the piece complemented the brown shearling Dedar Fabric on Disc Interiors chairs wonderfully.

The Cozy, Chic Office

A burl wood desk from CB2 makes for an ideal work from home perch. Jessica also introduced a TRNK dining chair into the space in lieu of a traditional desk chair The sculptural piece is a statement maker and adds a luxurious touch to what is primarily a utilitarian space.

The Féte Ready Family Room & Kitchen

Connected directly to the kitchen, the client’s family room is an entertainer’s delight. Jessica integrated custom marble coffee tables into the space. In the kitchen, counter stools from Thomas Hayes Studio make it easy to pull up a seat at the bar.

The Luxe Entry to this Cali Cool Home

Jessica continued to play to her client’s personality when designing the entryway, opting to place a tall, leaning mirror behind a wooden bench to cater to the woman’s love of a good selfie. Beside the mirror, a gorgeous marble plinth table from Design Within Reach adds textural intrigue—who could ask for a more stylish spot to set down piles of mail?

This Cali cool home truly does it all, offering a space to work, play, and just lounge—Jessica does it again, keeping it equal parts chic and casual.
