Our 2025 Design Trend Report

In the world of interior design, the ebb and flow of creative innovation continually redefines our understanding of what makes a home. As we enter into a new year, we’re looking forward to how designers will continue to push the boundaries of creativity in their projects and shape the future of how we live in our spaces. By embracing experimental palettes, leaning into unique applications, and prioritizing comfort, the design world is evolving to embrace individuality.

This year, we anticipate a continuing shift in how we make decisions about what we surround ourselves with. While interior design trends aren’t fleeting and short-lived, we love reflecting on where design is heading and sharing what we’re excited to see more of. Here are a few things we’re looking forward to in 2025:

Pattern & Color Cocoons

While the departure from the all-white interior into bolder, color and pattern-filled spaces certainly isn’t a new trend, we’re excited to see how this pendulum swing continues to evolve. From double-drenched color spaces to top-to-bottom patterned rooms, designers are going all in on the application.

Beyond the walls, leaning into color and pattern extends to window coverings, bedding, and custom upholstery. In 2025, we anticipate more tactile patterns through three-dimensional details in wallpaper and textiles. Committing to a color or pattern scheme creates a cocoon feeling and brings a sense of coziness to the home.

Unexpected Upholstery Application

Upholstery is an age-old design art, and we love how designers and manufacturers are incorporating more upholstered details into their work. This year, we expect to see more upholstered walls as an alternative to wallpaper, a rise of custom upholstery in retail, and upholstered case goods. From fabric piping on walls to leather-wrapped credenzas, the possibilities are endless for unexpected fabric forms.

Ornate Details + Embellishments

While there’s always room for streamlined and contemporary, we welcome the movement towards more embellishments in the home. We love seeing designers embrace timeless finishes and details like stained glass, millwork, wood-clad windows, and other elements that make a room feel storied. Artful joinery details, scallops, fringe, pleats, and piping aren’t going anywhere in 2025. As the move towards more custom and personal interiors continues, these elements help bring a unique feeling to the home.

Playful Primary Hues + Accents

The unexpected red theory had a moment in design in 2024, and we saw designers, stylists, and Tik-Tokers incorporate bold red accents into their spaces. Last year, we wrote about the return of yellow and saw some of our favorite designers incorporate this tone into their projects. We expect this trend of primary color accents to continue to unfold. This fresh take on colors doesn’t always work around a particular palette but helps call attention to elements in the home in a playful and sophisticated way.

An Era of Customization

The next generation of consumers and designers is reaching for quality over quantity, favoring hand-crafted pieces over dropship goods. Custom furnishings are nothing new in the luxury design space, but as the everyday consumer strives for more personal pieces, retailers are expanding their custom offerings. From inch-by-inch customizable retail rugs to increased custom upholstery options, opportunities for consumers to embrace customization are expanding. In luxury spaces, designers are leaning into one-of-a-kind furnishings and creating custom pieces for their clients that stand out as unique and novel.

Opulent Additions

Silver has been having a moment in interiors for a while now, and we’ve loved seeing designers bring the finish into their projects. In line with the move towards silver, we anticipate seeing more opulent hard and soft finishes — from smoked and etched glass to mirrored materials to vintage glass decor. These lustrous additions bring a fresh feeling to pair well with antiques, deep wood tones, and nostalgic colors and patterns.

A Call for Coziness

While it’s hardly fair to call coziness a trend, we’ve noticed a definite shift toward prioritizing comfort in the home. From wall-to-wall carpeted bedrooms to dedicated relaxation and lounge rooms, the call for comfort is apparent. Breakfast nooks, reading nooks, snugs, and secondary living lounge spaces are among our favorite spaces of last year, and we expect to see more of this in 2025.
