A Bright, Boho Vacation Home
I have a soft spot for Tudor homes (I’ve been revealing snippets of my own on the blog over the past few weeks!), and it’s safe to say I’ve majorly fallen for this Minnesota gem by designer Anne McDonald. Minnesota will forever hold a special place in my heart, as we take two annual team retreats a year to Gull Lake. However, this eclectic yet historic Tudor makes me think we could live here year round?
I feel like historic homes are having a major moment right now in general, but I can’t believe that this house is nearly 100 years old. Built in 1924, the home serves as Anne’s clients’ boho vacation home. When they came to her in January 2022, they wanted it to be ready by June of that year. Working against supply chain delays made the design process challenging, but this Minnesota designer delivered, particularly due to her strong existing vendor relationships—this is always so key, pandemic or otherwise!

The Textured Great Room
Anne notes that the previous owners had painted the inside of the Tudor white, making it easy to treat the home as a blank slate. Her clients’ style leans California boho, which is well-suited for the vacation property—despite the fact that it’s surrounded by snow for much of the year! The property leans boho in a quiet way, leaning into texture and quirk to articulate the bohemian vibe.
The Earthy Breakfast Nook
Anne combined a mix of natural tones in the beautiful breakfast nook, which makes for a fantastic place to start each morning. Don’t underestimate the power of gorgeous a table covering like the patterned piece shown here—it can really bring even the smallest of rooms to life. If your aesthetic preferences change, simply swap out your existing textile for a new one!
The Boho Vacation Home’s Dining Room
When Anne’s clients entertain larger groups of friends, they can easily gather in the dining room and sit around an expansive circular table that seats eight. An oversized piece of framed artwork and luxe looking picture light add instant intrigue to the space.
The Peaceful Sunroom
The home receives plenty of sunlight; the sunroom in particular is a calming place to read and relax while enjoying a private moment. Anne brought a pair of vintage plaid accent chairs from South Loop Loft into this room; their low profile encourages R&R.
If this were my vacation home, I’d want to pay it a visit all throughout the year—it’s too good to only enjoy for a few weeks at a time. To get the look, shop some of my picks inspired by Anne’s design below.
