An Effortless Modern Wine Country Home
Corine Maggio, the Mill Valley, California, designer who founded CM Natural Designs, completed a beautiful design of a modern California wine country home that features thoughtful pops of color and organic touches. Corine says that in conversations with her clients, the word “effortless” came up time and time again—that was exactly the look and feel that this individual craved. When reviewing possible furniture options, whichever item felt the most effortless ended up being the winning choice, Corine explains.
Corine has designed a laid back looking, welcoming home that is extremely well styled and full of life in addition to encompassing the effortlessness her clients craved. Corine adds that her clients are quite fun, and she therefore wanted to use color to add some color and personality to the home, too.

Warmth and Whimsy in the Modern Organic Guest Bedroom
Side Table – Industry West, Rug – Old New House
A Fusion of Natural Materials in the Dining Room
Rooted in neutrals and natural materials, the dining room is made even cozier with the addition of built in bookshelves. Corine incorporated natural materials including wood, leather, linen, soapstone, and plaster throughout many rooms of the house. She introduced these elements in different ways and proportions based on the specific space at hand, with a goal of achieving continuity throughout the home.
Chairs – Carl Hansen and Son, Chandelier – Roman and Williams Guild
A Moody, Mid-Century Inspired Living Room
In this modern organic wine country home, the living room is filled with more mid-century modern furnishings—and more books! Corine selected an eye-catching sculptural side table to go next to the sofa; it truly doubles as a piece of art and adds movement to the space. The rug in this room is once again a vintage find from Old New House, and the red tones are right at home among the warm wood paneling present all over.
Sectional – Design Within Reach, Chair – Cassoni
A Snug Primary Bedroom With Nooks and Crannies
Corine describes this home’s architecture as unique, and there are certainly many nooks and crannies within each space that required careful consideration. In the main bedroom, there was space for a separate desk or vanity area off the bathroom, which makes getting ready or jotting down a few quick thoughts before heading out the door a breeze.
Bed – Blu Dot, Dressing Table – Pinch
A Neutral, Serene Main Bathroom
Corine notes that many of the materials she selected for the home, including leather and soapstone, for example, will patina over time, becoming only more beautiful. After all, she explains, this is a home that is truly meant to be lived in and enjoyed for years to come, and the furnishings and finishes included throughout the space help to make this possible.
This home is proof that colorful touches and larger, neutral pieces can play together harmoniously—there’s no need to totally pick one lane or the other when decorating. Shop some of my pieces inspired by Corine’s design below.
