2022 Color of the Year: Evergreen Fog
We produce a wide range of design content, but the one topic that never fails to grab our readers’ attention? Paint colors. Over the years, we’ve covered our favorite White Paint Colors, Mushroom Paint Colors, and even Purples Paint Colors for your home. But this time around, we’re turning our attention to the Sherwin Williams 2022 Color of the Year known as Evergreen Fog. Set within the earth tone family, it’s described as “a chameleon color of green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue.”
With Evergreen Fog set to trend throughout the year, we wanted to highlight some spaces that capture the same essence of this muted sage-inspired tone. From mudroom walls to kitchen cabinetry, this color works in a wide variety of rooms, bringing a sense of serenity anywhere you use it. Let’s dive right in.

We love how Becca Interiors brought the outdoors in with an earthy sage paint color to warm up the mudroom. Paired with brass hardware, this look feels elevated, modern, and fresh.
“Evergreen Fog is a versatile and calming hue, a chameleon color of gorgeous green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue. It’s a simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade.”

If you’ve followed along with our house renovations, you know we’re no stranger to a great neutral paint color. Our primary bathroom features Sherwin Williams Snowbound, while the guest bathroom showcases SW Sea Salt—a close cousin to Evergreen Fog. However, the lower cabinets in our Modern English Cottage kitchen really speak to this particular gray-green tone. We love the versatility of this timeless hue and can’t wait to watch this color trend in the year ahead.
P.S. Don’t miss our design plans for the #IDCOLakehouse, including six exterior color options that recently caught our eye.
Design: Katie Monkhouse Interiors | Margaret Austin
Bay Area designer, Katie Monkhouse used this evergreen-inspired paint color in her client’s mountain home retreat. It brings such a mood to the whole space, working beautifully against the dark wood trim and leather lounge chairs.
Design: Caitlin Flemming
On the lighter side of Evergreen Fog, this kitchen designed by Caitlin Flemming is an example of how even this subtle color tone can make a big impact.

The use of natural materials and warm earth tones are hallmarks of Julia Miller’s work. We love how she accented the closet doors with a color similar to Evergreen Fog, using matte black hardware to tie it all together.

In our book, deVOL Kitchens can do no wrong. They are always at the forefront of design and never shy away from color—sage green included.

We couldn’t limit ourselves to just one Heidi Caillier inspiration image, so we decided to source two. She’s proving this color tone works in a variety of ways, bringing a calming freshness to living spaces and kitchens alike.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this color of the year! Leave us a comment, and let us know how you plan to use it in your next project.
