A Custom & Serene Spec Home
When an investor hired designer Brooke Mennen-Talsma of Brooke MT Interiors to design this project, she was eager to work on her first spec home. Beginning with the floor plan stage, she and her team selected every detail, from flooring and paint to countertops and plumbing. Along with the design phase, she also completed 3D renderings for every room to approve before committing to the materiality and build of the home. The final result strikes the perfect balance between timeless and unexpected, complete with beautiful custom details, a healthy mix of materials, and intentionally designed floor plans fit for a lucky homeowner.
We love this project’s 3-tone kitchen, the primary bathroom wet room, and the loft office above the garage that Brooke cleverly utilized to create more useable space in the home.

Material mixing in the kitchen
Mixing materials is a great way to keep a kitchen from feeling one-note, and in the kitchen, Brooke incorporated three different cabinetry finishes to do just that. A pewter green-painted island brings depth and color, while taupe-painted perimeter cabinetry balances the white walls. Custom-stained rift-sawn white oak countertop hutches complete the design and draw the eye to the ceiling.
The plumbing in the kitchen is from Delta with the “Champagne Bronze” finish paired with the unlacquered brass finish on the Rejuvenation hardware.
Statements in the living room
Every room needs a focal point; in this living space, the fireplace centers the room while setting the tone with texture. Though you’d never guess at first glance, the fireplace surround is actually a quartz that mimics marble, making it a great, durable alternative to marble at a more achievable price point. Warm wood accents complement the light and bright design and bring a cozy element to this room.
A moody office moment
In the office, Brooke leaned into a moody feeling by color drenching it in “Intrigue” by Benjamin Moore. Chic overhead lighting, a beautiful wood desk, and cozy chairs complete the space, making it perfect for lounging and working. We love how Brooke incorporated light tones through the soft furnishings in this room to balance out the dark paint tone and contrasted warm and cool elements through her lighting choices.
