Inside a Thoughtfully Designed Modern Treehouse Home
When an Austin native set out to build a new home, they knew one thing for sure—going up was the way to go. Nestled in the heart of Travis Heights, this modern treehouse-style retreat was designed with a deep respect for the land, preserving a majestic live oak while embracing seamless indoor-outdoor living. Enter Shannon Eddings, the designer behind the home’s effortlessly eclectic aesthetic, whose signature blend of nostalgia and whimsy brought the vision to life.
From a pistachio-hued kitchen to moody blue plaster walls in the primary suite, every inch of this home tells a story. Thoughtful details—like a scalloped vanity and pleated pendant lights—add charm without feeling overly polished, while a mix of vintage and contemporary pieces strikes the perfect balance between past and present.

A Lived-in Welcome
Since one of the primary goals of this project was creating a home that felt storied and lived-in, bringing some old in with the new was crucial for Shannon’s approach. In sourcing for this project, Shannon focused on curating primarily vintage and antique pieces to furnish the home. Every room has a piece that is old and reclaimed with new life. In the living room, mid-century sconces from France flank the statement-making fireplace, adding a sense of history to the new building.

Subtle striped Roman shades soften the windows, while colorful upholstered seating adds to the warmth and personality of the room.
A Warm Pistachio Green Kitchen
Shannon incorporated an intentional material palette in the kitchen to bring character and playfulness to the new construction. Warm natural wood anchors the kitchen, while a playful pistachio green accent on the island and windows brings balance. Hand-formed zellige tile adds an imperfect element to the room, while vintage-inspired pendant lights center the space.

The “Hot Dog’ Lounge Room
The upstairs living space, lovingly dubbed ‘The Hot Dog Room’ for its muted red and mustard color palette, is a natural landing spot for the homeowner’s weekly soccer viewing parties. The green windows and doors featured upstairs serve as a quiet callback to the kitchen, punctuated by Shannon’s expert pattern play seen throughout the home.

Antique chairs reimagined in a Kufri fabric and paired with antique side tables and a Danish mid-century coffee table bring a little extra character to this space, balancing out the new.
A Sweet Guest Suite
On the property of the primary home, an ADU guest suite embodies above-the-garage living at its finest, blending comfort with a hint of unexpected whimsy. Shannon oversaw the design plans, creating a true respite for guests with a fully functioning kitchen and bath. The space features reclaimed pine floors and beams from the original house, adding endless warmth and character. Red steel doors and windows create a bold contrast, while the checkerboard tile bathroom—originally intended to be limited to the floor—was a creative risk that transformed the space.
