Inside a Thoughtfully Restored 1885 Farmhouse
Originally built in 1885, this historic farmhouse-style home has lived many lives. First constructed at the base of the pond it now overlooks, the home was carefully relocated to the top of the hill in the early 1990s after falling into disrepair — rebuilt piece by piece with the intention of preserving as much of its original character as possible.
When Danielle Rose Design Co. came onto the project, the homeowners had already spent years thoughtfully assembling the right team to bring the home into its next chapter. Their vision was clear: restore the home in a way that honored its history, while making it more functional, layered, and livable for their young family. After a full year of architectural review through the town’s historical society, the renovation began — resulting in a home that feels deeply rooted, beautifully renewed, and designed to stand the test of time

A Historic Home, Reimagined for Modern Family Life
Throughout the home, Danielle Rose Design Co. preserved many of the original architectural details, including windows, moldings, and door and window casings. New details were introduced with equal care, from V-groove paneling that nods to the home’s original wall treatments to carefully recreated staircase spindles that honor the craftsmanship of the past.
The result is a renovation that feels classic without being expected. Traditional prints, earthy tones, statement stones, natural materials, and layered color give the home warmth and depth, while modern updates make each space practical for everyday family life.

The Kitchen
At the heart of the home, the kitchen balances timeless materials with thoughtful architectural updates. Danby marble countertops pair with custom inset cabinetry in Benjamin Moore Natural Cream and warm walnut, creating a palette that feels refined but approachable.
As part of the home’s extension, the ceiling was vaulted and finished with white oak detailing, bringing height, rhythm, and character to the space. Statement lanterns anchor the room, while a dedicated coffee bar with a hammered unlacquered brass sink and gallery rails adds both charm and function. Upholstered counter stools by Brownstone Furniture complete the kitchen with a tailored, comfortable finish.

The Mudroom and Foyer
The mudroom and foyer set the tone for the rest of the home with a timeless marble checkerboard floor from Riad Tile running the length of the space. Inset walnut and creamy cabinetry, unlacquered brass hardware, and marble ogee countertops introduce warmth, patina, and a sense of craftsmanship.
V-groove paneling wraps the walls and ceiling, creating continuity throughout the space, while Morris & Co. wallpaper in the foyer, striped café curtains in Kravet fabric, and RW Guild mini flush mounts add thoughtful layers of pattern and charm.

The Living Room
Color-drenched in Farrow & Ball’s Elephant’s Breath, the living room is intimate, collected, and designed for conversation. A soapstone fireplace anchors the space, while built-in shelving frames a central doorway and creates symmetry for books, objects, and art.
A deep, earthy red mohair sofa brings richness and warmth to the room, complemented by layered textiles, a pale herringbone rug, brass accents, picture lights, and a sculptural burl wood coffee table. The high-gloss ceiling reflects light from delicate mini flush mounts, adding depth and a quiet sense of drama.
