Trending: Bold Black Exteriors

Last week we took you on a tour through the best dark and moody interiors from designers we adore.  We covered everything from black walls to bold accents to dramatic wallpaper, but we aren’t finished just yet. Today, we’re continuing part two of our Halloween-inspired series with black exteriors that have been trending in a major way. Nothing says bold and modern like a black exterior, and we couldn’t think of a better opportunity to take a look at our favorites. Call us smitten, but dark and daring homes have never looked so good.

When design duo Chris and Julia Marcums first announced they were working with Studio McGee on their home’s exterior redesign plans, we knew it’d be GOOD. But, when they unveiled the final reveal just last week, it instantly became one of our all-time favorites. Grab the full tour here.

The Three Birds teams gave this exterior a major facelift, and the result is sleek and modern to the max. The green cabinetry adds an extra fun contrast, and they even put together a full video tour in case you’re curious to see more.

Using a black-slate color tone—Benjamin Moore Gray 2121-10, to be specific—the team at Fowlkes Studio managed to make this home one of the coolest kids on the block.

Julia Miller’s Minneapolis home recently made its big debut in Better Homes & Gardens. In our opinion, the incredible black exterior nearly stole the show. Thanks to her thoughtful design choices, both inside and out, Julia officially brought new life to her colonial home.

World-renowned architectural firm, Ike Kligerman Barkley designed this property directly inspired by the 18th century home of botanist Carl Linnaeus. With a black facade, white windows, and tons of character, you can officially consider this our dream home.

This exterior image has been popping up all over Instagram, and it’s not without good reason. Frankly, who wouldn’t love a waterfront property dressed up in the perfect shade of black?

True story: you know a home is trendsetting when it has its own Instagram page. This all-black exterior set in the Pacific Northwest makes cabin life look effortlessly cool.

Just in case you’re wondering, brick + black pair beautifully, and this home is the proof. There’s so much to love in a single image, but the modern black shutters just might be the standout detail.
