Thanksgiving Table Design: Natural + Moody

We’ve had the best time taking you through part one and part two of our Thanksgiving table design series. So far, we’ve featured the prettiest floral centerpieces and the coziest rustic place settings, but believe it or not, we may have saved one of the best for last. For the third and final iteration of our Thanksgiving series, we’re taking things in a more natural, organic, and moody direction. The star of the show? A live moss table runner lined with pillar candles galore. This tablescape is a lesson in ‘less is more’ with simple yet impactful design moments woven throughout. Per usual, we’ve also put together a three-course menu (think less meat and more flavor), a step-by-step DIY tutorial, and a corresponding playlist for a celebration with the ones you love most.

The Tablescape

Starting with an antique harvest table and a tightly curated list of decor elements, our natural and moody Thanksgiving table design began to take shape. We wanted to focus on the simplicity of candlelight plus a single greenery element. The pillar candles from The Beeswax Co. combined with our live moss table runner accomplished exactly that.

We kept the color palette neutral and earthy, allowing the vibrant fresh moss set against the table’s wood tones to speak for itself. Each place setting included classic coupe dinner plates with gray linen napkins tucked neatly underneath. While this may be the most understated tablescape of our three-part series, we also think it happens to be the most impactful with a fresh, organic feel.

The DIY: Live Moss Table Runner

SUPPLIES

DIRECTIONS

  • Roll out a sheet of craft paper onto your table.
  • Using spray adhesive, glue your moss to the paper. Note: we added a second layer of moss to parts of the runner for added depth and dimension.
  • Set pillar candles on top of your moss runner, making sure to layer with various candle sizes and heights.

The Menu

As the most organic Thanksgiving table design of our three-part series, it was only fitting to create a menu with an equally natural feel. In lieu of the typical turkey dinner, we set a menu focused on less meat and more flavor, with a vegetarian-friendly entree everyone will love. To keep things still feeling traditional amidst new recipes, we included the classic mashed potatoes and gravy, plus an indulgent pecan pie with a browned butter twist.

RECIPE SOURCES:

Fall Charcuterie Board | Stuffed Acorn Squash with Sage | Pomegranate Panzanella Salad | Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes | White Wine Gravy | Brown Butter Maple Pecan Pie | Cranberry Spritzer

The Playlist

Our resident DJ (aka – Product Manager) Mica Dieterich curated the perfect playlist “Vibey Thanksgiving” on Spotify for your autumnal festivities. It’s three hours of moody music to take you all the way from apps to dessert – enjoy!
