A 1930s Colonial Revival Updated for Family Life Today
Sometimes the smallest wish can spark the biggest changes. For Kaminski + Pew, what began as a request for a functional secondary entry in a 1930s Colonial Revival farmhouse in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, quickly expanded into something much more—a thoughtful renovation that touched nearly every corner of the second floor, blending historic character with updates that make daily life run beautifully.
Wynnewood, PA, is home to a 1930s Colonial Revival farmhouse with all the charm you’d expect from its era—stone walls, gracious proportions, and a sense of history that’s hard to replicate. But for its current owners, everyday life in the house came with a few challenges: no true secondary entry, a jumble of underused closets, and kids’ spaces that didn’t quite fit their needs. Enter Kaminski + Pew, who started with plans for a modest mudroom addition and, along the way, reimagined much of the second floor. The house now wears its updates so naturally, you’d swear they’d been there all along.

A Seamless Mudroom Addition
Kaminski + Pew designed the mudroom addition to feel like it had always belonged. Off the living room, they built custom cabinetry to maximize storage, framed a cozy bench seat, and concealed everyday gear behind clean-lined millwork. Heated Stone Source floors keep the space comfortable year-round, while Caesarstone countertops and Rejuvenation hardware strike the perfect balance between durability and classic appeal.

Kid-Friendly Bedrooms That Grow with Them
Upstairs, the design team reimagined the children’s bedrooms with longevity in mind. They removed unused closet space to carve out custom desk nooks, each backed in playful yet sophisticated wallpaper—Borastapeter in one room and Serena & Lily in the other. Sherwin-Williams’ Breathless, a soft pink, and Natural Choice bring timeless color to the walls, keeping the rooms bright and inviting now and adaptable for the years ahead.

Bathrooms with a Fresh Perspective
Each bedroom now connects to its own updated en-suite bath. The team specified Restoration Hardware vanities, West Elm medicine cabinets, and crisp Nemo tile to create spaces that feel classic without tipping into overly traditional. They refined the layouts to improve flow and storage, ensuring the bathrooms can handle the morning rush without sacrificing style.

Small Spaces, Big Impact
The updates didn’t stop at the headline rooms—attention went to the laundry room and stairwell corridor as well. The laundry was reconfigured for better flow, with finishes that make it a genuinely pleasant place to be. In the stairwell corridor, smart updates now link the second floor’s refreshed spaces seamlessly. Together, these small moves make the home feel more cohesive, more functional, and more enjoyable to live in.
