A Contemporary and Moody LA Home With Simple, Layered Warmth
Warm neutrals, moody color, and layers of personal story come together in this contemporary Leimert Park home by Stay Interiors.
Tucked into the historic Los Angeles neighborhood of Leimert Park, this 1928 home had already been remodeled into a contemporary space—clean, quiet, and bright—but what it needed was warmth. The homeowners, a young family with full schedules and a growing collection of travel photography, wanted the space to feel intentional and inviting, with a moodier palette that still held up to everyday life. Stay Interiors stepped in to build that balance through layered textures, grounded color, and meaningful personal pieces woven thoughtfully from room to room.

A Living Room That Balances Mood and Light
The living room is the heart of the home, shaped to feel both relaxed and social. A deep navy sectional stretches across the space, encouraging family time, movie nights, and effortless entertaining. Stay Interiors designed custom built-ins in a mossy green—Benjamin Moore’s Pining for You—crafted by local carpenters at Yeehaw Woodworks. The color nods to the greenery visible through the bay windows and connects visually to the dining room rug just beyond. Warm wood tones, brass accents, and a mix of patterned pillows soften the deeper hues, creating a room that feels grounded.

Personal Stories Layered Into Every Corner
One of the most meaningful transformations was bringing the homeowners’ own photography into the foreground. The client, an avid traveler with an impressive archive of images, had never displayed them at home. Stay Interiors made them central, pairing framed photographs with vintage maps and collected artwork so each room tells part of the family’s story. These pieces create a subtle rhythm through the house with warm tones, landscapes, and bits of history that make the contemporary bones feel more personal.

A Dining Room Rooted in Warmth and Contrast
The dining room leans into sculptural forms and quiet drama. A black rattan pendant adds organic softness, its shape casting gentle shadows across the walnut table below. One of the client’s travel photographs anchors the wall, infusing the space with memory and movement. Pattern comes through in the moss-toned rug, which ties back to the living room built-ins and brings cohesion to the open layout.

Bedrooms Designed for Ease and Everyday Life
In the guest room, Victorian Mauve by Benjamin Moore wraps the space in a warm, restful glow. Layered bedding, rich wood tones, and simple forms ease the room into calm. The kids’ room introduces playful grounding: Ivy League green wainscoting, graphic wallpaper, and a vintage rug carried over from the family’s previous home, anchoring it all together.
