A Historic Tudor Reimagined for Modern Family Life
Tucked into one of Los Angeles’ most charming neighborhoods, this 1920 Tudor holds more than a century of history within its arched windows and sun-drenched rooms. Designer Brooke Abcarian of Carian Design was brought in to furnish and style the interiors for a young family of four (plus one fluffy doodle) who had recently made the house their own.
The clients first discovered Brooke when her own home was featured in Architectural Digest online, and they saved her information for the day they purchased their dream home. When that time came, they reached out right away. With two entertainment-exec parents and very young children (their son was born while the project was underway), the couple was looking for a space that felt both elegant and lived-in, layered and family-ready.

Designing for Everyday Elegance
The scope of work centered on furnishings, decorative lighting, wall treatments, and window coverings across the main living spaces and bedrooms. With the kitchen and baths already remodeled, Brooke was free to focus on imbuing warmth, character, and a touch of history into the heart of the home.
What stood out most to her? The Tudor’s original architectural details. “I loved the home’s interior arches and arched windows,” Brooke says. “Those elements have been there for 105 years! It’s so special to showcase history instead of trying to add personality to a new build.”

Throughout, she layered vintage finds with high-end textiles and custom details, always keeping the realities of family life in mind. “At the very core was the consideration that everything will be used every day—by the adults, the two little kids, and their doodle from Italy—so everything needed to be usable.”
Sunlit Living Spaces
In the living room, Brooke anchored the space with a custom Christopher Farr rug in flax and chocolate brown and a Maiden Home Sullivan sofa with Belgian slope arms that nod to the home’s history. She balanced vintage weight with lighter lines: a Dutch cast-brass Brutalist coffee table from 1stDibs paired with reupholstered vintage lounge chairs in a deep green mohair. Pillows in Pierre Frey Le Manach fabric and leathers from Moore & Giles add understated pattern and texture.

A Refreshed Dining Space
Rose Tarlow wallpaper sets the tone for the warmth of the dining space, while a refinished vintage dining table—one of Brooke’s favorite finds—brings soul to the room. “It was pretty beat up, but I got it for a good price and had it refinished here in LA. My clients really trust me, and that trust makes all the difference.”

Handmade Touches in the Family Room
Durability meets handmade artistry in the family room, where a 1960s tiled mosaic coffee table by Tue Poulsen proves both indestructible for kids and rich in character. “It’s so different from everything being ‘new new new’ all the time,” Brooke says. “The handmade quality really adds warmth.”

Thoughtful Bedroom Details
Upstairs, Brooke turned her attention to restful retreats. The primary bedroom is dressed with a Matouk Augusta coverlet, Victoria Morris custom lamps, and a headboard upholstered in Boon & Up fabric—woven by women in northwest Ghana. “From afar it reads like a preppy stripe, but up close you see the handmade texture. It’s amazing.” A Helene Blanche linen lumbar pillow completes the bed with artisanal charm.

The children’s rooms are equally thoughtful. In the nursery, Brooke used Benjamin Moore Cloud White walls and a playful Flat Vernacular wallpaper to create a soft yet cheerful backdrop. Her daughter’s room layers Saybrook Sage on the ceiling and Marble White on shelving for a fresh, airy effect.
