A Polished New Jersey Home Designed for Everyday Living
In Colts Neck, New Jersey, Salt Design Company brought new life to a 1990s Colonial by refining its flow and function. The palette of grounded, organic textures and quiet luxury gives the home an ease that fits both family living and frequent entertaining.
When a New Jersey real estate professional and his family decided to renovate their Colts Neck home, they turned to longtime collaborator Sarah Brady, Creative Director and Founder of Salt Design Company. Together with the team’s Design Director, Kiera Gannon, and Interior Designer, Nicole Duncan, they transformed the kitchen and great room to better suit the family’s everyday rhythms and love of entertaining. The new layout maximizes the existing footprint, introduces a built-in bar, and layers in timeless materials and textures. With refreshed furnishings and a reimagined fireplace surround, the space now feels polished yet easygoing, a reflection of Salt Design Company’s signature balance of comfort and sophistication.

Optimized for Everyday Living
Salt Design Company reworked the kitchen from the ground up, turning wasted space into a layout that flows naturally for both daily life and entertaining. A new built-in bar gives the family a dedicated spot for hosting, while timeless shaker-style cabinetry in Farrow & Ball’s Drop Cloth keeps things grounded and classic. Overhead, Truesdell pendants from Visual Comfort add a sleek, sculptural touch that plays nicely against the kitchen’s clean lines.

Gathering Spaces with Character
With 23-foot ceilings already setting the tone, the great room didn’t need a full overhaul—just a thoughtful refresh. The team gave the fireplace a new surround and a faux-finish stack to create a focal point that feels grand but inviting. New furnishings, including the Montauk Daybed from Maiden Home, balance scale with comfort and give the space flexibility for both family mornings and larger get-togethers.

A Fresh Take on Tradition
The home’s 1990s Colonial bones offered plenty to work with. Rather than strip that away, the team leaned in, layering modern finishes like Portola Paints’ Charleston in a Roman Clay finish and Benjamin Moore’s Simply White (an Interior Collective favorite white paint) for an update that feels fresh but still familiar. Organic materials, layered neutrals, and textures like woven rattan, gingham, and matte metal tie the rooms together while softening the home’s traditional framework. It’s a mix that feels comfortable, classic, and made to be lived in.
