A Refined Rustic Home in Austin, Texas
Tucked into the rolling hills of Austin, Texas, this Arts and Crafts–style home has always carried a rustic charm. Its stone walls and timbered bones were beloved by the homeowners, but when it came time for an extensive remodel and addition, they wanted more than a refresh—they wanted a space that honored its rugged soul while elevating the finishes, flow, and function.
Enter Blair Burton Interiors, who, alongside Mark Richardson Architects and Dalgleish Construction Company, reimagined the home with a vision they called Refined Rustic. Over two years of thoughtful design and construction, the residence was transformed into a timeless retreat—equal parts welcoming family hub and sophisticated showcase of craftsmanship.

A Gathering Place with Heart
The clients, referred by their trusted builder, dreamed of a home that worked beautifully for two yet could expand effortlessly for family gatherings. With a game room, pool, and generous living areas, entertaining was always part of the plan. But they also wanted the interiors to tell a story: of texture, continuity, and harmony between indoors and out.

In every new addition, Blair and her team carried the stone coursing patterns seamlessly inside, matched timber beams for structural and decorative rhythm, and sourced finishes that feel organic and tactile. The result? Spaces that exude both strength and softness, with a sense of belonging to the land.
The Kitchen: Craft Meets Comfort
At the heart of the remodel sits the kitchen, where rustic stone floors anchor a space of remarkable detail. Custom walnut cabinetry pairs with leathered Taj Mahal quartzite countertops—luxurious yet grounded. A hand-crafted ceramic tile backsplash from Waterworks adds subtle artistry, while a bronze hood by Two Hills Studio gleams with quiet strength.

The effect is a kitchen that feels both substantial and inviting—a space where you can just as easily gather with family for casual meals as host a dinner party steeped in elegance.
The Primary Suite: Seamless Inside and Out
The new primary bedroom and bath were designed to blur the line between exterior and interior. Stone walls and wooden beams continue indoors, creating a cocoon that feels rooted in place. Light filters through Conrad Shoji screen panels, softening the room’s rugged edges with a delicate touch.

In the bathroom, steel-framed windows and shower doors amplify the natural light, while walnut floating vanities, a concrete tub by Native Trails, and Graff plumbing fixtures bring sculptural interest. Every surface—from leathered Sandalus quartzite to stone tiles sourced by Farmhouse Stone—has a tactile quality that invites touch. It’s a masterclass in pairing raw materials with refined execution.
Living Spaces that Flow
The living room underwent one of the most dramatic transformations. New windows usher in expansive views, while a fresh fireplace surround and white oak beams add warmth and structure. By bringing the stone inside, the design ties the space directly to its setting, grounding the interiors in the Texas landscape.

In the dining room, Blair’s team leaned into the Arts and Crafts inspiration, creating a plaster accent wall in Sherwin Williams’ Gauntlet Gray and a custom walnut floating cabinet that feels like built-in furniture from another era—timeless, intentional, and crafted to last.

A nearby wine room celebrates conviviality, with stone walls and generous storage for both wine and spirits, while the hallway becomes a design moment in itself with custom wall cladding, built-ins, and a Visual Comfort pendant to guide the way.
Thoughtful Details at Every Turn
Even the smallest spaces shine. The powder bath, part of the original structure, now centers on a sculptural Stone Forest Wabi sink—an art piece in its own right. The pool bath, clad in plaster walls with a floating teak bench and stone finishes, feels every bit as intentional as the more formal rooms. It’s these moments of care that elevate the home, ensuring that no space is an afterthought.
