A Vibrant 1920’s Remodel With A Pumpkin Colored Dining Room

When you see this beautifully crafted kitchen and dining room, it’s hard to imagine that it was once a space that designer, avid entertainer, and foodie Gail Davis didn’t look forward to coming home to. After spending more time than ever in her home during the COVID lockdown, she decided it was due time to take herself on as her own client and transform the space into the kitchen of her dreams. After gutting and re-arranging the entire layout of the dated 1920s space, Gail brought her expert eye for color and material to the table to create a gathering spot she and her family will love for years to come.

There’s something about the projects designers design for themselves that feel extra special and thoughtful — and this space is no exception. Gail is known for interiors that feel equal parts livable, and elegant, never afraid to experiment with bold colors and textiles to bring even the most ordinary of rooms to life. From the ceramic star-patterned tile to the pumpkin-colored dining area, each detail in this kitchen and dining room is filled to the brim with personality and feels distinctly Gail.

A Kitchen Worth 5 Gold Stars

Architect Woody Tony and contractors The Zorel Group collaborated with Gail to update the kitchen space, which had not been renovated since the 1950s.

It’s hard to pinpoint a favorite element of this area, but we love how the vintage-feeling star-patterned tile sets the tone for this space and inspires the rest of the warm and time-honored palette. Veiny marble is even better when it’s continued on the backsplash, and this one makes a statement all the way up the ceiling while framing that stunning wood interior window.

A Nook in Lieu of an Island

Rather than going with the usual kitchen island surface, Gail opted for an adorable nook to add more character to the space and encourage gathering. We love how a nook like this in the kitchen softens a typically utilitarian space and makes it feel inviting — who wouldn’t want to drink their morning coffee here? Grasscloth wallpaper, brass lighting, and linen cafe curtains add even more character and feel right at home in this vintage-inspired kitchen.

The Great Pumpkin Dining Room

Pumpkin Blush by Benjamin Moore painted on the walls and trim of this dining space make a bold statement and set the perfect backdrop for intimate family meals and dinner parties alike. A custom table adds even more warmth to the room, while Arhaus dining chairs and a show-stopping Visual Comfort chandelier create just the right amount of drama. This area is the perfect proof of concept for going bold with color — it’s hard to imagine this space with white paint, and we love how the saturation makes it feel even more considered and complete.
