A Warm & Character-Driven Home Refresh

When kicking off this project for her clients, designer Cassie Klassen knew she wanted to focus on bringing the surrounding nature through the interiors. The home, which Cassie’s clients brought her on to help furnish, style, and assist with light construction, sits on a beautiful property that shows through the incredible windows in each room. It’s hard to imagine this space any differently than Cassie dreamed it up to be — filled with timeless finishes, an array of cozy seating, and touches of nature-inspired details in every corner.

Cassie prioritized designing furniture plans with many places to entertain, gather with friends and family, and take in the sweeping tree-lined views. Scroll through to see how she refreshed this 1962 home into a modern and inviting retreat.

Timeless Textures

Beautiful custom wood doors set the tone for the dining space that opens up into the main living room and acts as the primary gathering space for the homeowners. The time-worn brick flooring adds so much character and texture to this room, warming up the space. Cassie and her team intentionally selected pieces to highlight the home’s character and finishes — from dusty-rose curtains that pull in tones from the brick flooring to a beautiful wood dining table and chairs that blend into the room’s dimensional backdrop.

A Charming Custom Window Seat

The ten-foot window seat — one of the homeowner’s favorite additions to the home, was custom-made to fit right alongside the length of the window and designed to feel like it was part of the window itself. Not only does this piece highlight the beautiful views outside, but Cassie mentions how it quickly turned what was once an awkward space in the client’s kitchen into one of the most used areas in their home. A playful yet subtle striped upholstery cushion adds just the right amount of pattern to the look and makes it ultra comfortable for the whole family. Who doesn’t love a window seat?

Lovely Lounge Spaces

Several lounge and seating areas in the space invite the homeowners and their loved ones to gather and take in the sweeping views together. Cassie designed each space with the home’s surroundings in mind, taking inspiration from the palette of the environment and the windows to create furniture layouts positioned toward the views.
