A Waterfront Retreat with Seamless Flow

When a design project begins with a simple idea, you never quite know where it might take you. For Candace Plotz Design, what started as a sunroom addition and pool for a family’s waterfront home in Ontario, Canada, quickly blossomed into something much more—a complete reimagining of the main living areas that would transform how the family moved through and experienced their home.

Perched on a beautiful stretch of shoreline with a generous beach, the home already had the kind of backdrop designers dream of. But inside, the layout didn’t quite match the serenity of its surroundings. “As the project progressed, the clients recognized an opportunity to improve the overall functionality and flow,” says Candace. “That realization opened the door to a cohesive, thoughtfully integrated transformation.

A Main Floor Made for Living

Candace and her team took a full-service approach, reconfiguring the main floor to better suit the family’s lifestyle. This meant moving walls, rerouting electrical and plumbing, and rethinking every inch for both beauty and utility.

The kitchen became the heartbeat of the home—bright, functional, and elevated with timeless finishes. Crisp Benjamin Moore Simply White cabinetry is warmed by a dark wood custom stain on the island, creating a grounded contrast. Countertops and backsplash in Silestone and Hanstone stone add subtle texture, while Shaw sinks and Studio McGee for Kohler faucets strike the perfect balance between practical and pretty.

Tucked just off the main space, a walk-in pantry and custom coffee nook add daily convenience while keeping the kitchen clutter-free—a detail the family now can’t imagine living without.

Spaces with Flow and Function

The reimagined dining room now connects seamlessly to the kitchen and sunroom, making it ideal for both casual family meals and easy entertaining. Nearby, the mudroom and laundry room got thoughtful upgrades for storage and organization—proof that utility spaces can be just as considered as the “pretty” rooms.

In the foyer, Benjamin Moore Gray Mist creates a soft, welcoming tone, while Benjamin Moore Ranchwood accents add depth. The powder bath—often an overlooked space—received a touch of drama, turning it into a small but impactful design moment.

A Waterfront Home Worthy of Its Viewsding

By the time the last finish was in place, Project River Haven had evolved into something far beyond its original scope. “The flow feels effortless now,” says Candace. “Every room connects in a way that makes sense for how the family lives.”

With the lake just steps away and every main floor space reimagined to match its beauty, this home is now as inviting inside as it is out—a true waterfront retreat built for gathering, unwinding, and enjoying the everyday.
