An English-Inspired Newport Cottage
What began as a small remodel for this Newport cottage home built in 1958 quickly became a large project where JZ Interiors worked with their clients to take the entire home down to the studs and transform it into the home of their dreams. The renovation, completed from 2021 to 2022, included an added pool in the back, a raised roofline, and countless details that create beauty and function around the historic property.
It’s easy to see that every detail was considered in this top-to-bottom remodel. Jaime and her team at JZ Interiors designed each element to compliment the home’s original cottage exterior, from the custom wooden cabinetry to the veined Carrara marble countertops.

The Jaw-Dropping Kitchen
In the beginning stages of the project, the decision to raise the 1950s roofline to a large pitched roof opened up the kitchen and the living room, creating a statement in the focal point of the main living space.
A sloped hood sets the scene, drawing the eye to the pitched ceilings, while beautiful Calcutta Monet marble adds texture to the countertops and backsplash. JZ Interiors customized every detail in this kitchen to create more function for the family, adding a shelf above the stove top for placing cooking essentials, building an appliance garage to hide their coffee corner, and even customizing the pantry around how the homeowner would organize it.
The statement chandelier designed by Lucent Lightshop above the island brings modern charm and balances the large custom island underneath.
A Charming Dining Nook
After expanding the kitchen area to include a large kitchen island, the next step was to create a charming dining nook perfect for morning breakfast conversation and hosting friends for dinner. A built-in wooden dining banquette includes added storage underneath and a cozy cushion and pillows for lounging on top. It’s hard to go wrong with wooden vintage dining chairs, especially when covered with patterned seating cushions and scalloped skirts — how charming is this space?
The Primary Bed & Bath
The primary bedroom feels like the ultimate cozy cottage retreat, with a window seat, more built-in storage, layered lighting, and mixed textures. We love a classic slip-covered piece, and this brown slip-covered bed provides warmth to create an inviting atmosphere from the moment you step inside the room.
The JZ team customized beautiful wood-fluted cabinets in the primary bath to house hair-tool plugins for less cluttered countertops. Vertical shiplap blends in seamlessly and completes the suite with even more dimension.
