From Early 2000’s Builder-Grade to Cozy Eclectic Retreat
When Sagrada Studio’s clients reached out to designer Hema Persad, looking for ways to make the most of their 1200-square-foot home, they had a clear aesthetic vision. Drawn to the artisanal, imperfect, yet rich feeling that Hema’s work is known for, they envisioned a cozy, eclectic space to showcase their collections, host film watch parties, and become the backdrop to their daily lives.
Although working with a tight budget for a complete renovation, the new homeowners were eager to get creative with design solutions and incorporate vintage pieces. Hema re-imagined their home, working with a cohesive material palette that allowed each space to flow seamlessly. Incorporating the client’s accessories, sentimental artwork, and love for color gave the space a personal, vibrant feeling, from the bold green and marble kitchen to the cozy living room.
Taking everything down to the studs, Hema designed two home offices, a bedroom, a kitchen, a dining space, and a living room. What was once a builder-grade home stuck with early 2000s finishes became a beautiful custom bungalow, bringing the family form and function.

A Show Stopping Kitchen
When the kitchen is one of the first spaces you see from the front door, it takes responsibility for setting the tone for the home. The clients wanted it to feel interactive and inviting, showcasing a playful material palette, custom cabinetry, and jaw-dropping stone. Hema designed the island with honed quartzite and a waterfall edge to show off the details and connect it to the matching refaced fireplace.

The Coordinating Dining Nook
Since space was one of the project’s biggest challenges, opting for a smaller round dining table created more flow in the compact area. Hema utilized the existing built-ins to create a dedicated coffee and drinks area, pulling in the green Zia tile from the kitchen to tie the spaces together.
The triangle of finishes creates a feeling of connectivity in the space with enough variation to keep it interesting without overwhelming the design.

A Cozy & Playful Living Room
Carrying the same Farrow & Ball “Calke Green” from the kitchen and dining space into the living room created a cohesive palette in the open-concept spaces and set the tone for the lounge area. A soft pink SixPenny sofa contrasts the green mantel and accent chairs, and vintage lighting and textural accents bring warmth. While rugs were a “save” item for the clients, Hema sourced elevated and price-friendly options throughout the home to withstand wear and tear from the family’s three pets and daily life.
