If you’ve kept tabs on recent interior design trends, you’ve likely noticed the surge of bold, risk-taking stripes. Once closely associated with coastal or nautical-driven interiors, this classic pattern has undergone a significant reinvention, appearing in wallcoverings, painted ceilings, sofa upholstery, flooring, and even tiles. The timeless appeal of stripes is undeniable, and today we’re delving into the work of five leading design studios—Duet, Studio Duggan, Heidi Caillier, Buchanan Studio, and Lizzie Green—each of which has seamlessly integrated stripes into the fabric of their signature aesthetic. Explore their masterful use of stripes, highlighting its enduring influence in modern interiors.

DUET

Led by Dominique Brammah and Shannon Shlom, Duet is an Australian design studio known for seamlessly blending classic elegance with modern sensibilities. Their Matchpoint Project, a renovation of a Tudor-style home into a vibrant, family-friendly space, epitomizes their approach. Embracing the juxtaposition of old and new, one standout feature is the playroom, where a daring striped ceiling injects a playful energy into the space. This bold use of stripes is a signature motif found throughout Duet’s portfolio, with striped light fixtures and wall coverings continually bringing unexpected whimsy to their spaces.

STUDIO DUGGAN

Londoner Tiffany Duggan of Studio Duggan is no stranger to bold stripes. In fact, you’ll notice them prominently featured across her studio’s residential and commercial work. From a vibrant striped banquette adding character to a family home in Kensal Green to the striking use of striped floor tiles in an ensuite, Duggan’s designs cleverly incorporate pattern to add depth and personality to every space. The studio’s approach to stripes feels effortlessly fresh and classic, straight out of a Nancy Meyers film.

HEIDI CAILLIER

You don’t have to look hard to find stripes in Heidi Caillier’s work. She frequently opts for a classic striped rug to balance busy patterns in a space, effortlessly pulling a room together. However, one of her boldest striped interiors gained widespread popularity across social media—a tiled shower/tub that pushed the boundaries of design with dramatic tiles, showcasing a fearless approach to incorporating stripes into her residential projects.

Design BUCHANAN STUDIO

BUCHANAN STUDIO

This British design studio has become somewhat synonymous with a bold, wide stripe. Their product line, featuring their Studio Chair and Studio Sofa, is a masterclass in striped upholstery, which they seamlessly integrate into their work. Favored for its striking visual impact, the wide red and white stripe is a signature element of their design aesthetic that has also been widely trending this year.

LIZZIE GREEN

Whether it’s a tiled shower or an upholstered banquette, designer Lizzie Green doesn’t shy away from stripes that command attention. Her Herne Hill Project is a great example. Using handmade jade and white tiles from Mosaic Factory, she crafted an immersive space that balances a bold floor-to-wall pattern with calming color tones for a serene aesthetic. Her design application of stripes leans classically preppy yet inherently sophisticated for her London clientele.
