A Cozy & Chic California Family Home
Today’s home tour by design firm Marin Design Co. is filled with natural light, a moody library, the prettiest materials, and sweeping views of its surroundings in beautiful Granite Bay, California. When the homeowners of this stunning new build reached out to Marin Design Co. over three years ago, looking for help creating a family home for themselves and their five boys, the team was excited to come on board in the beginning stages of the build and architecture.
By the time the project was complete, they had a hand in every element, from the first drawings to styling the finishing touches. The result is as beautiful as it is practical — featuring two laundry rooms for daily chores, plenty of storage, and a material palette for the ages.

Design Highlights
Beautiful, expansive windows bring the outdoors in and allow plenty of natural light to complement the space while creating a frame-like effect on the home. A minimal yet textural material palette creates a refined, California-cool feeling without sacrificing warmth and character infused throughout this new build.
Marin Design Co. incorporated natural, time-worn materials throughout the home that take on a new life among the simple lines of the architecture. Each element works together to elevate the space — from the painted brick on the fireplace to the Carrara marble in the bathroom.
High, vaulted ceilings make this sizeable home feel even bigger and draw the eye upward.
A Functional Family Home
Designing a family home where five boys live means functionality is at the forefront of each decision. The team prioritized intentional solutions for easy organization, incorporating two laundry rooms to make daily chores a breeze and plenty of storage throughout the home. In the kitchen, beautiful custom cabinetry and a standing island bring ample space for this busy area, elevated by mixed gold hardware and perfectly imperfect hand-formed tiles.
The Library
A moody library filled with shelves of books and a rolling ladder is the stuff of dreams, and we love how this room was designed to contrast the remainder of the light and bright spaces in the home. The beautiful, deep blue color (Newburyport Blue by Benjamin Moore) creates the perfect backdrop for brass picture lights and the family’s favorite reads.

One of the client’s main requests was a spa-like primary bathroom. Marin Design Co. mixed cool marble with a warm wood-fluted vanity to create a jaw-dropping focal point in this space.
