A Greenwich Home Reimagined for a New Chapter

For the owners of this Greenwich, Connecticut home, the move from New York City marked the beginning of a new chapter. The couple, who were looking for a larger family home with space for visiting relatives and future children, immediately connected with the property and location. The house itself, originally built in 2006, had strong traditional bones, but it didn’t yet reflect their personal style, cultural background, or the way they wanted to live.

After discovering Far Studio on Instagram, the clients reached out to Brittany Hakimfar and her team with what began as a conversation about cosmetic updates and furnishings. But after walking through the home together and understanding the couple’s long-term vision, the scope quickly evolved into a full-scale renovation.

The project became even more personal during the design process, as the couple learned they were expecting a child via surrogate after years of trying to grow their family. What started as a renovation became a deeply meaningful opportunity to create a warm, layered, and highly personal home for the next phase of their lives.

A Reimagined Entry and Main Living Spaces

From the moment you enter the home, Far Studio’s approach is clear: tailored, layered, and full of personality. The foyer sets the tone with lighting from Boyd Lighting, sconces by Sklo, and a Maiden Home console, creating an entry that feels polished but still inviting.

In the living room, Far Studio introduced a custom Calacatta Viola fireplace mantle, giving the space a strong architectural focal point. A Schwung chandelier, Utrecht chairs upholstered in Kravet mohair, and a coffee table in the style of Charlotte Perriand add a mix of sculptural form and texture. The overall feeling is refined, but not too formal, with pieces that feel collected rather than overly decorated.

Bright entry hall with two sweeping staircases and black iron balusters meeting at a balcony, opening to a sunny garden courtyard.
Living room with a marble fireplace, a large round gold mirror, and a modern brass chandelier, flanked by red upholstered chairs.

One of the larger interventions in this area of the home was the addition of new windows in the family room, bringing in more natural light and helping the traditional structure feel more open and connected. Throughout the main level, new flooring, updated fireplaces, and custom stair railings helped bring cohesion to the overall renovation while still preserving the original character of the house.

A Rich, Personal Approach to Dining

The dining room is one of the strongest examples of the home’s balance between old and new. While many fireplaces throughout the residence were updated, Far Studio chose to preserve the original ornate fireplace in this room, allowing it to remain an anchor of the home’s traditional architecture.

Around it, the team layered in a bolder and more personal design direction. Farrow & Ball’s Brinjal on the walls creates a rich backdrop, paired with Fromental wallpaper, a Visual Comfort light fixture, and a dining table by Gubi. Maiden Home chairs in burn umber mohair bring warmth and depth to the room, while a Lulu & Georgia rug softens the space underfoot.

Nearby, the butler’s pantry continues the home’s refined material palette with cabinetry by Bluebell Kitchens and marble fabricated by Stone Tech Fabrication. These hardworking transition spaces were treated with the same level of care as the main rooms, helping the entire home feel considered from one area to the next.

A Kitchen Designed for Light and Everyday Living

The kitchen was fully redesigned in collaboration with Bluebell Kitchens, with Far Studio creating a space that feels both elevated and practical for everyday family life. One of the biggest architectural changes was the installation of a large new kitchen window, which brought in natural light and completely shifted the feeling of the room.

Custom cabinetry, marble by Stone Tech Fabrication, lighting from Orphan Works, and Thomas Hayes Studio counter stools all work together to create a kitchen that feels polished, but still comfortable. It is the kind of space designed for daily use, family gatherings, and hosting, which was especially important for clients who wanted the home to accommodate visiting relatives and future children.

Private Spaces with Custom Detail

Upstairs, the primary suite underwent a major architectural transformation. Far Studio opened up walls and created a sculptural curved ceiling, adding softness and a sense of movement to the room. The space is layered with a Pinch London light fixture, Philippe Jeffries wallpaper, custom seating, Parachute bedding, and Restoration Hardware nightstands.

In the primary bathroom, the design continues with Allied Maker lighting, Winfield Thybony wallpaper, Brizo plumbing fixtures in Luxe Gold, Zellige tile from Zia Tile, and a Native Trails tub in a concrete Earth finish. The material palette feels warm and tactile, creating a retreat-like space without feeling stark.

A Lower Level Built for Wellness and Entertaining

The lower level was fully renovated to support both wellness and entertaining, adding another layer of function to the home. Far Studio created an indoor/outdoor gym, spa and sauna, bar, theater room, and an additional powder room, turning the basement into a true extension of the living space.

In the theater, custom seating is paired with Bernhardt leather sofas, Philippe Jeffries suede wallpaper, and carpet from Canter’s Carpet, creating a cozy and immersive space for family movie nights. The basement powder room includes a Rejuvenation sink, Lulu and Georgia mirror, Marble Systems floor tile, and custom roman clay plaster walls, giving even the smallest spaces a strong point of view.
