Tour This 1930’s Boutique-Hotel-Inspired Home

When describing how they wanted their new old home to feel, Far Studio’s clients reflected on their stays at boutique hotels they had visited in their travels — unique, inviting, elevated, and unexpected spaces. Far Studio, a Philadelphia-based firm led by designer Brittany Hakimfar, was ready to take on the challenge of infusing warmth and personality into the storybook 1930s home nestled into a tree-lined street from our dreams.

While the homeowners wanted their space to reflect its rich history, they didn’t want it to feel overly traditional or stuffy. In collecting inspiration, they referenced loving the feeling of the Crosby Street Hotel in Soho, NYC, and some of the boutique hotels they had stayed at in London. Pulling inspiration from these spaces, the Far Studio team leaned into designing a unique home filled with plenty of color, pattern, and dark shades in unusual places.

We know you’ll fall in love with this home’s playful color story, thoughtful materials, and detail-oriented design around every corner. Scroll on to see more from this project and see the sources.

A Broccoli Brown Kitchen

The window-centered kitchen is the perfect case for darkening the cabinetry without losing natural light, and it’s hard to imagine that this kitchen was ever another color than the Broccoli Brown it became in this project. Leather and brass stools accent the subtle hardware, and charming kitchen pendants nod to the traditional feeling of the home.

Blue Lounge Room Den

Every home needs at least one moody room, and this blue-room den is a masterclass in blending playful motifs with sophisticated design decisions. The bright blue velvet Camaleonda sofa brightens the inky blue walls painted in Farrow and Ball’s Inchyra Blue, while the plaid armchair and woven furniture elements bring warmth to the space.

Purple Whimsy in The Bunk Room

Another playful color story gives the girl’s bunk room an unexpected (and quite charming) twist. A whimsical botanical wallpaper sets the tone, and a deep lilac hue continues from the walls to the custom arched bunk beds. Vintage-inspired accents, pleated light fixtures, and a corner desk complete the room. Who else wants to move right in?
