A European Modern Sanctuary in the Hills of Yucaipa
Tucked into the rolling hills of Yucaipa, California — where grapevines dot the countryside and horse trails thread the land — sits a home that feels worlds away. On a quiet street lined with mature trees and wide-open views, a 1977 midcentury farmhouse has been lovingly reimagined as a serene modern retreat.
Designed by Pepper and Olive Interiors, this layered, light-filled home is more than a renovation — it’s a reverent nod to old-world charm wrapped in the tailored ease of California living. Looking for a space that felt grounded in nature but elevated in detail, the homeowners turned to Pepper and Olive to help curate a space that honored their lifestyle and reflected the unique surroundings of the property.

A Full-Circle Story
This story begins just a few streets away. Back in 2019, the homeowners toured Autumn’s own home renovation, drawn in by her signature blend of rustic warmth and European elegance. Two years later, with their children newly flown from the nest, they returned — this time, ready to reimagine their own.
The vision was clear: a modern sanctuary rooted in authenticity. Think reclaimed materials, bespoke architectural moments, and a focus on emphasizing the surrounding views.

Drama & Function in the Kitchen
The heart of the home is a stunning European-inspired kitchen where handcrafted textures take center stage. Wide oak plank floors lead to a custom island in Benjamin Moore Natural Cream, while reclaimed ceiling beams and vintage-inspired lighting add soul to the modern bones.
Open shelving in the pantry offers a peek at the clients’ thoughtfully curated collection of wares — a space as practical as it is elegant.

A Timeless & Modern Great Room
The great room is where this home’s personality comes into full focus. Expansive windows — carefully placed to frame key views of the property’s barn and pastures — allow nature to pour in from all sides. Stone accents and plaster finishes create texture, while a mix of contemporary and antique furnishings tell a story of balance: old meets new, clean meets cozy. The Pepper and Olive team spent hours fine-tuning the size and placement of each window. Every sightline had to feel intentional and connected to the land.

Rustic Refinement in the Dining Room
A vintage European dining table anchors the dining space, its worn wood surface offering a quiet contrast to the sleekness of the adjoining bar. French doors painted Benjamin Moore Black frame a view to the outdoors and invite in natural light throughout the day.
The bar itself is a visual moment — equal parts function and sculptural element — drawing guests in with its moody palette and thoughtful styling.

A Peaceful & Pared-back Primary Suite
In the primary suite, serenity reigns. Layers of white and warm wood tones play together, underscored by custom millwork and soft, filtered light. The ensuite bath continues the material story with natural stone, brass fixtures, and subtle European influences that echo the home’s overarching aesthetic.

A Naturally Luxurious Exterior
From the reclaimed portico to the earthy stone walls, the exterior is a study in quiet luxury. Rather than compete with the natural surroundings, the finishes seem to rise organically from the land.
