Our Holiday Hosting + Gathering Guide
As we prepare for the gatherings ahead of us in the upcoming months, we’re reflecting on our favorite traditions and moments from years past and looking forward to creating new memories this holiday season. We always look forward to this time of year as an excuse to plan tablescape designs, make our favorite food, and bring our friends and family together.

Our holidays have looked different each year, but we love finding a way to make our tables feel meaningful in little ways. Here, we’ve rounded up a guide to our favorite table designs, recipes, and a few go-to hosting pieces we turn to repeatedly. Whether you’re hosting or attending festive celebrations as a guest, there’s something in this guide for everyone. First, let’s take a walk down memory lane to revisit some of our past table designs.
A Natural Moss Tablescape
When it comes to a simple yet elevated tablescape, you can’t go wrong with a candle-lit greenery look. This moss table moment we put together in 2020 makes a pretty, rustic woodland statement without much heavy lifting. This DIY project was super simple and required just four items and three assembly steps to put together. It’s a great look for Thanksgiving, but it could work for so many other gatherings over the holiday season or even well into the spring!
You can find a step-by-step guide to how we put this table runner together in this post.
Our Suspended Floral Look
This suspended floral tablescape look from 2021 has to be one of our favorite autumnal centerpieces we’ve done yet. A hanging centerpiece is the perfect way to wow your guests, and it also allows for more surface area to fill the table with food and serveware. Layered pillar candles and a simple linen tablecloth keep the focus on the arrangement and heirloom flatware adds a special personal touch to complete the look.

A Bountiful Harvest Centerpiece
In 2022, we were in the middle of a reno in The Austin Tudor with one foot in at our Austin townhome, and the holiday season was a last hurrah for family gatherings at our place before the big move. We wanted to keep our table design uncomplicated but still fun and memorable. This statement floral centerpiece was a great solution to keep things relatively simple while still allowing us to flex some creative muscles. A pared-back tablescape design allows the single bountiful harvest centerpiece to be the wow factor.
An oversized basket from a local boutique (similar option here + here) placed in a low vase with chicken wire to hold the basket was an easy workaround that turns any basket into a waterproof vase in seconds.
A Few Go-to Thanksgiving Recipes
We love building our Thanksgiving menu around the classics and trying new things each season. At our table this year, you’ll find all the usual suspects (turkey, stuffing, roasted vegetables, and rolls) and a few twists on the tried-and-true.
Here are some recipes we’re excited to try this season:
